In My Bookshelf : Le Pieds de Fumiko ☕️📖

Hello everyone,

Recently, I read The Foot of Fumiko by Junichirō Tanizaki. It was through this book that I discovered the Japanese author for the first time someone I had long wanted to explore. Lately, I’ve felt the urge to turn more toward foreign literature and to open myself to new horizons. With Tanizaki, I wasn’t disappointed. His style is magnificent, clear, and graceful, yet tinged with a touch of perversity that completely won me over. The first story, The Siren’s Lament, delighted me with its fairy‑tale quality and subtlety, while The Foot of Fumiko, through its sensuality and perversion, carried me away page after page. I can’t wait to read more of this author and to see what other worlds he leads his readers into.

In this short story, a wealthy old merchant becomes captivated by a geisha  not by her face, but by the silent poetry of her feet, which seem to carry within them an entire world of mystery and grace.

It is a novel that explores obsession in all its splendor, with a subtle and unsettling intensity.
